I may not have the whole world experience, never had a chance to see how the foreign retailing are being operate and manage but it is not an excuse since all the information is at our fingertips, the World Wide Web. It’s like a library with no borders for those who want to be better and seek useful knowledge thus improving own self, work qualities and environment.
There’s a lot of better person than me outside there, with excellent career track, having more experiences in Retailing even providing retail consultancy. I may not be the best but I will be better from time to time. Retail is a huge industry, with different concept & brand, different trend & hype, different people & environment not to mentioned millions varieties of products to choose from.
Starting as part time Store Associate selling apparels, then I make a move in Fast Moving Consumer Goods thus make me realize it’s not totally sales but the services given to others. At one time, I was given the responsibilities to manage stocks and that time I aware the important of product knowledge. The following years I’ve learn to manage staff and from that point onwards slowly climbs up the ladder to operations and management level. It is not that easy as said but perseverance and determination has pushed me through the hard time. It is a quite relentless work, working 9 hours or 12 hours a day, weekends, and public holidays and even sometime on off day thus it makes people have less interest to choose as a career.
Actually, it is one of the industries that contribute (direct or indirectly) in the country’s growth, without it I think there will be no shopping mall, groceries store, hypermarket, concept store etc. It is an industry that involves business investment, locally & internationally.
There is quite some point in retailing that can be share & discuss, in the sense for improvement. This is my retailing point of view in Malaysia.
